Attachment Issues & Disorders

Attachment is described as a deep and enduring emotional bond that connects one person to another across time and space.

Attachment theory explains how the parent-child relationship emerges and influences subsequent child development. The more securely attached a child is the better the child does in their social, emotional and cognitive development.

Poor childhood attachment can leave an adult vulnerable to difficulties in forming secure adult relationships. Attachment patterns can be repeated throughout life and, indeed, across generations. We develop expectations of new relationships and friendships based on  past relationships.

Attachment styles are not fixed and with either positive life experience or appropriate therapeutic intervention and a strong desire for change adults can alter their relationships and experience true intimacy and closeness.

We can help you to explore and resolve childhood attachment difficulties within a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship.
